Meet the Wild Pine Cats (The Crew, the Cousins & the Former Fosters)

Welcome to Cat Parliament. We don’t have a speaker of the house; we have a speaker of the window (that would be Chatty). Our home runs on snacks, 10-minute resets, and a lot of purring. Here’s who’s who—how they arrived, what they love, and which lap they’ve annexed.

Quick note: We often foster and sometimes rehabilitate sick or skittish cats. New arrivals start in their own room with a vet visit, meds if needed, and slow, polite introductions. It’s not fancy—it’s love, routine, and a door that actually latches.

Jinx — the shadow who chose my lap

Color: solid black
Origin story: Found in Tennessee, drenched in a parking lot on a cold, rainy day with his mom Sweetie Pie. He came to Texas with us at around three months old and never has to be cold, wet, or hungry again.
Personality: Velcro sweetheart. If I sit down, he teleports onto my lap for loving pets and cuddles.
Care quirks: Sensitive tummy; some foods are a no-go, and stress can mean throw-ups—so we keep his diet steady and the vibes gentler than lo-fi beats.

Sweetie Pie — the dignified nap connoisseur

Color: black & white
Age vibe: our elegant elder (~10)
Signature move: Winding affectionately around your legs in the quiet, then perching on the headboard shelf for a regal, keep-the-peace nap when the house gets loud.
Weakness: A can of tuna as a treaty offering.

Chatty — neighborhood watch, indoor division

Color/coat: gray tabby with bold black stripes
Backstory: Lived with Larry, the cat guy down the street. When we moved here, he started visiting so faithfully that Larry officially gave him to us.
Personality: Talkative, sweet, and a surprisingly paternal presence with kittens.
Hobby: Catnip. Windows. Narration.

Lola — Jinx’s “wife” and snack-motivated introvert

Color/coat: tortie
Backstory: Roaming the shop where Matt works; he worried she’d get hurt like others have, so he scooped her to safety.
Personality: Independent. Happy to be left alone unless you have treats. Allows two pets if (and only if) she initiated it.
Status with Jinx: Inseparable. It’s lore.

The Sparkle Sisters — affectionate + after-hours cuddler

Names: Sparkle And Cat (long-hair tabby) & Cat And Sparkle (long-hair tortie)
Backstory: Saved by Matt, together.
Personalities:

  • Sparkle And Cat: launches into laps like a love comet.
  • Cat And Sparkle: plays hard during the day, then sneaks in for night cuddles like clockwork.

Spaz — small body, jumbo zoomies

Color/coat: tabby
Backstory: Daughter of Calliope.
Personality: The poster child for silly kitten energy. Think hallway sprints and surprise parkour off the couch.

Baby — nap buddy to a tiny human

Color/coat: black & white
Backstory: Neighbors moved and left him at ~3 weeks. We bottle-fed, we snuggled, he stayed.
Personality: Lazy, sweet, and known to cuddle Alien (our 8-month-old) during naps like a furry weighted blanket.

The Trailer-Park Tenacity Crew — all heart, new starts

Rescued as wild and sickly babies from a trailer park (crusty eyes, sniffles, malnutrition). After vet care, meds, good food, and isolation, they grew into themselves. Most are tame and sweet now; one is still deciding we’re okay.

  • Dang Dang — orange tabby, brave little announcer with excellent chirps.
  • Excavator — smoky gray; arrived completely bald, now gloriously fuzzed. Loves to dig, hence the name.
  • Apollo — orange tabby, solar-powered napper.
  • Tallulah — calico; still warming up to us. Tolerates a few pets now (we celebrate every “yes”).
  • Freyja — tabby-tortie swirl; regal posture, queen energy.
  • Calliope — tabby calico and mama to Spaz; more on her below.

Dust Bunny Who Is Also A Cat — yes, that’s her legal name

Color/coat: fluffy gray & white
Backstory: I was checking the mail and saw a tiny ~8-week-old kitten toddling down the road, jaw a bit shorter than it should be. We brought her in, gave her a snuggly corner with wet food and water, knocked on doors—no one claimed her.
Name origin: After an intense family brainstorm (Potato? Blanket? Amelia?), Raspberry decreed: “Dust Bunny Who Is Also A Cat.” We call her Bunny in casual conversation; the full name is reserved for state occasions.

Forever Homes (and happy updates)

  • Calliope — rehomed with a kind couple across town. She arrived to us stressed and underweight, got healthy, raised her kitten (hi, Spaz), and now lives the soft life as a cherished only-(or onlyish) cat. We still trade photos and grin like fools.

We love long, slow rehabilitation arcs, and we’re picky about matches. Indoor-only homes, good vet access, patience for soft hearts, and a couch that tolerates a few learning curves.

How We Keep the Peace (Cats + Kids, Small Home Edition)

  • Vertical paths so cats can bypass toddler highways.
  • 60-second litter routine (scoop AM/PM, mats, mini lidded bin).
  • Gentle toddler scripts: “Gentle hands. Cats can say ‘no.’
  • Starter rooms for new cats so everyone can smell before they meet.

(If you’re new here: our posts on Keeping Cats Happy in a Small Home and our Small-Space Litter & Odor Plan have the exact setups we use.)
